Background

Leonard Cheshire Disability-West Africa works under the parent umbrella, Leonard Cheshire, a UK-based charity organisation that works to change attitudes toward disability and support disabled people around the globe. This establishment came into effect immediately following the end of the decade-year old armed conflict in Sierra Leone in 2001. This organization inherited a devastated country that was inhabited by homeless people, many of whom were disabled through amputations and poverty.

To enhance networking and promote local participation, we partner with Cheshire Services, National Councils, Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) and stakeholder Institutions (particularly in areas covering inclusive education) in the countries we operate.
